Byline: MICHAEL WALTERS
BUILDING on a catalogue of quality books, Dorling Kindersley is developing the skills to make money from the on-line world of the Internet.
Softly, softly, Dorling already has a Web site that invites readers to swap tales of sexual fantasies with Anne Hooper, author of a beautifully illustrated `Ultimate Sex Guide' on CD-rom disc.
It generates no revenue yet for Dorling, but is part of a learning process that should eventually open rich opportunities to information suppliers.
Dorling's pre-tax profits in the six months to December 31 rose 54pc to [pounds sterling]8.1m, with the interim dividend up from 1.3p to 1.5p a share.
Brokers expect pre-tax profits up from [pounds sterling]12.7m to [pounds sterling]17m for the year. Up 21p to 516p, the shares sell on 36-times prospective earnings - highly-rated, but not expensive. MICHAEL WALTERS
