NSW: Man jailed for 17 years for girlfriend's murder
A man who shot dead his girlfriend in a bungled robbery has been jailed for at least 17 years.
Nowra couple .. OLIVER SILVANO and TRACEY LEE OLIVER .. planned to rob bystander DAVID
HORIN in Sydney in April 2004.
Ms OLIVER lured Mr HORIN into a car park but when SILVANO confronted Mr HORIN with
a loaded sawn-off shotgun .. the pair wrestled and Ms OLIVER was fatally shot in the chest.
SILVANO then shot at Mr HORIN .. hitting him in the shoulder.
A jury convicted SILVANO of Ms OLIVER's murder as well as maliciously inflicting grievous
bodily harm on Mr HORIN and assaulting him with intent to rob him.
In sentencing the 29-year-old in the New South Wales Supreme Court yesterday .. Justice
ROBERT HULME accepted that Ms OLIVER was shot unintentionally .. and that SILVANO shot
at Mr HORIN in a state of shock.
SILVANO's been jailed for a maximum 21 years and four months for the murder.
He's also been jailed for a maximum five years and four months for maliciously inflicting
grievous bodily harm on Mr HORIN .. as well as nine years and four months for the assault.
SILVANO must spend a total of at least 17 years behind bars.
He'll be eligible for parole in 2021 with time already served.
